ages of two sisters are proportional to 6 and 8 now .
let x = the multiplier
then
6x = present age of one sister
and
8x = present age of the other
:
After 6 years , their ages will be proportional to 4 and 5 respectively .
=
cross multiply
4(8x+6) = 5(6x+6)
32x + 24 = 30x + 30
32x - 30x = 30 - 24
2x = 6
x = 6/2
x = 3
What is the age of the older sister now ?
8*3 = 24 yrs
