Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Bessy has 6 times as much money as Bob, but when she earns $6.00, Bessy will have 3 times as much as Bob. How much does each have before and after earning $6.00?
--------------
Let Bob have "x"
Bessy has "6x"
---------------------------
EQUATION:
Bessy + 6 = 3*Bob
6x+6 = 3x
3x = -6
x = -2
---------------
Comment: Are you sure about the statement of your problem?
Bessy had 6 times as much money asBob to start with; she
then acquired additional money. How could she have only 3
times what Bob had?
----------------------
Cheers,
Stan H.
