I worked it out originally as -17 then by BODMAS as -13 I am now being told it should be 17 I have tried online math apps and THEY ALL GIVE THE ANSWER AS - 13 Are my tutors in error here because I think they are ?

It is -13. Multiplication precedes addition/subtraction, so 3 - 3 * 6 + 2 equals 3 - 18 + 2 = -13.

if your original problem is 3 - 3 * 6 + 2, then:

multiply 3 * 6 to get 18.

the expression becomes 3 - 18 + 2.

since 3 - 18 is equal to -15, then your expression becomes -15 + 2.

since -15 + 2 is equal to -13, then your expression becomes -13.

the math apps are right.

the answer is -13.

the rule i know is PEMDAS.

that means to clear parentheses first, then exponents, then multiplication and division, then adding and subtracting.
