Nine more than a number is the same as a quarter of the number, subtracted from twenty-four. What is the number?

Let x be an unknown number.

Then x + 9 = 24 - x.

Simplify and solve it:

x = 24-9 = 15,

x = 15 :  = 12.

Answer. x = 12.
