for example
-15/8 and -7/4 which one is bigger? this is kind of confusing because the one what outputs the largest value is actually the smallest because it's in the negative. How can I do this fast?

Either use the same DEN, -15/8 and -14/8, or convert to decimal, -1.875 and -1.75
--------------------
-7/4 is more positive, to the right on a number line --> it's bigger in the sense that -2 is bigger than -3.
