Distance equals rate times time, so the train, goes a certain distance which is equal to times some amount of time, , to wit:

And the time it takes is given by:

The plane goes the same distance at in three fewer hours, viz.

And the time it takes is given by:

Since

Let x be the time it takes the train to make the trip, then
65 * x = d, where d is the distance of the trip
130 * (x - 3) = d
Now set the equations equal to each other and solve for x
65 * x = 130 * (x-3)
65x = 130x - 390
65x = 390
x = 6
65 * 6 = d
d = 390 miles
