I need to solve for y and x using the substitution method but im stuck or it could have no answers im not sure...the equations are
3x+2y=27
5x-3y = 7
--------------
Usually in substitution, you solve for either x or y, then sub into the other equation.
3x+2y=27
2y = -3x + 27
y = -3x/2 + 27/2
-----
5x-3y = 7
5x -3*(-3x/2 + 27/2) = 7
5x + 9x/2 - 81/2 = 7
10x + 9x - 81 = 14
19x = 95
x = 5 ************* Then sub for x in any eqn to find y.
3x+2y=27
15 + 2y = 27
2y = 12
y = 2 **********************
Fractions should be avoided if possible.
Try this:
3x+2y=27 times 3 --> 9x + 6y = 81
5x-3y = 7 times 2 --> 10x - 6y = 14
==========================
9x + 6y = 81
10x - 6y = 14 --> 6y = 10x - 14
Sub for 6y in the 1st eqn
---
9x + 6y = 81
9x + 10x - 14 = 81
etc.

Hi there,
3x+2y=27...(1)
5x-3y=7 ...(2)
Use number(2)
5x - 3y = 7
5x = 7 + 3y
x = (7 + 3y)/5
Substitute this value for x in (1)
3x + 2y = 27
3((7+3y)/5) + 2y = 27
Multiply out
(21+9y)/5 + 2y = 27
Multiply through by 5
21 + 9y + 10y = 135
Collect like terms
19y = 135 - 21
19y = 114
y = 6
Substitute y = 6 into (2)
5x - 3y = 7
5x - 3(6) = 7
5x -18 = 7
5x = 7 + 18
5x = 25
x = 5
Hope this helps:-)
