Question 971713: A ball is thrown from 4 feet off the ground with a vertical velocity of 30 feet per second.
Is the ball at its maximum height after 1 second? In two or more complete sentences, explain how you know whether or not the ball is at its maximum height.

Using the equation of motion,
(where symbols have usual meanings)
From above equation, we get,
(At max height, velocity =0 and taking g= 32feet/second^2 approx.)
=>
So, it will take 30/32 seconds(i.e less than 1 second to reach maximum height, and then ball starts descending. So, after 1 sec, ball is below its maximum height and in downward motion.
