Answer by TimothyLamb(4379)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Here's a simple one:
---
5/7 = 8/x
---
find x:
---
5/7 = 8/x
---
multiply both sides by x:
---
x(5/7) = x(8/x)
5x/7 = 8x/x
5x/7 = 8*(x/x)
5x/7 = 8*1
5x/7 = 8
---
multiply both sides by 7:
---
7(5x/7) = 7*8
5x*(7/7) = 7*8
5x*1 = 7*8
5x = 7*8
---
divide both sides by 5:
---
(5x)/5 = (7*8)/5
(5/5)x = (7*8)/5
1*x = (7*8)/5
x = (7*8)/5
(7*8)/5
---

x = 11.2
