Question 9313: i think that this is expressions involving variables, substitution, but my book doesn't say. I don't get what i'm supposed to do. the problem is -(3-x) and i just don't know how to simplify it. i just don't know how to work it and my math book doesn't explain anything. can you help me?
Answer by rapaljer(4671) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
-(3-x) means to multiply -1*(3-x) which is -3 - (-x) or -3 + x.
If your book is not giving you explanations, then look for my lesson plans on this algebra.com website. In the last two days, I posted lesson plans about variables and substitution, which explains exactly what you are asking here. If you like it, then also check out my own website by clicking on my tutor name "rapaljer" at the top of this solution or anywhere in this website, and look for Basic Algebra, then go to Samples of Basic Algebra: One Step at a Time. That will take you to a chapter by chapter breakdown of my curriculum, and you can look up whatever topic you need. It's all free on the internet.
