Question 86610: A co. makes a plastic piece used in cars. The co. has 5 machines that can produce the piece at different rates. For a particular job, the company needs to produce 2,718 pieces. Machine 2 produces twice as many pieces as Machine 1. Machine 3 produces 15 more than 3 times as many pieces as Machine 1. Machine 4 produces 7 less pieces than Machine 1. Machine 5 produces 10 more pieces than Machine 2. How many pieces should each machine produce?
Answer by Nate(3500) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Machine 1: x pieces
Machine 2: 2x pieces
Machine 3: 3x + 15 pieces
Machine 4: x - 7 pieces
Machine 5: 2x + 10 pieces
x + 2x + 3x + 15 + x - 7 + 2x + 10 = 2718
9x + 18 = 2718
x = 300
Machine 1: x = 300 pieces
Machine 2: 2x = 600 pieces
Machine 3: 3x + 15 = 915 pieces
Machine 4: x - 7 = 293 pieces
Machine 5: 2x + 10 = 610 pieces
