The base of a triangle is 5 meters more than its height, and its area is 12 square meters. Find the base and the height of the triangle. [area =1/2*base*height]
--------------
Let the height be "x" meters.
Then the base is "x+5" meters.
EQUATION:
[area =1/2*base*height]
12 = (1/2)*(x+5)*x
24 = x^2+5x
x^2+5x-24=0
(x+8)(x-3)=0
Positive answer: x=3 meters (height)
x+5 = 8 meters (base)
