Question 850209: The substitution method. Solving a pair of equations.
X=2-Y
2Y+X=9
Y=X+2
2(X+2)+X=9
2X+4+X=9
3X+4-4=9-4
2X=5
This is where I get lost the book gives the answer as (-5,7) 2x=5 should be x=-5

Answer by richwmiller(17219)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
X=2-Y
2Y+X=9
y is not equal to x+2
Y=2-X
The book is right
X = -5, Y = 7.
start over
x=2-y
2y+x=9
2y+2-Y=9
y+2=9
y=7
x=2-7
x=-5
