Question 829324: I have a question specifically dealing with multiplication properties of exponents. My question is: Is (y^m)^n=(y^n)^m a true statement? This doesn't make sense to me. I don't think I have fully grasped the multiplication properties of exponents yet.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
When you have exponents on the inside and outside of parenthesis, you multiply them. If you are just multiplying 2 numbers with exponents, you add.
Example:
%28a%5E3%29%5E4
This is same as writing a%5E3%2Aa%5E3%2Aa%5E3%2Aa%5E3 which gives you a%5E12 It is easier to just think 3*4 though.
if it had been a%5E3%2Aa%5E4 the answer would have been a^7.

So looking at the problem, you can just do it the easy way by multiplying the exponents together.
%28y%5Em%29%5En=%28y%5En%29%5Em
y%5Emn=y%5Enm
This is a true statement.
if m=3 and n=2, y%5E%283%2A2%29=y%5E%282%2A3%29 is y%5E6=y%5E6. This is a true statement.
