Question 82046: Solve each of the equations by substitution:
4x-12y=5
-x+3y=-1
Answer by jayanthihemkos@yahoo.com(87) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
4x-12y=5----------(1)
-x+3y=-1-----------(2)
consider equation (2)
-x + 3y = -1
3y = -1+x
y = -1+x/3 (by transposing)
plugging the value of y in equation (1), we have
4x-12(-1+x/3)=5
4x + 12/3 -12x/3 = 5
4x + 4 - 4x= 5
Since we have +4x and -4x in the above equation, they get cancelled
hence there is no solution for the above equation.
Hence the system is inconsistent
