Question 797059: 4x+5y=3
3x-2y=8

Answer by waynest(281)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
4x + 5y = 3
3x - 2y = 8
times the first equation by 3 and the second equation by 4
12x + 15y = 9
12x - 8y = -32
subtract the second equation from the first giving:
23y = -23
23y/23 = -23/23
y = -1
substitute -1 for y in the first equation:
4x + 5(-1) = 3
4x - 5 = 3
4x - 5 + 5 = 3 + 5
4x = 8
4x/4 = 8/4
x = 2
check:
4(2) +5(-1) = 3
8 - 5 = 3
3 = 3
3(2) - 2(-1) = 8
6 + 2 = 8
8 = 8
