Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Simplify:
a. 5x + 2y / 35x + 14y
Factor where you can to get:
(5x+2y)/[7(5x+2y)]
Cancel the factor common to numerator and denominator to get:
= 1/7
-------------
b. x^2 -5x -14 / 2x^2 - x - 10
Factor where you can to get:
[(x-7)(x+2)] / [2x^2-5x+4x-10]
= [(x-7)(x+2)] / [x(2x-5)+2(2x-5)]
= [(x-7)(x+2)] / [(2x-5)(x+2)]
Cancel the factor common to numerator and denominator:
=(x-7)(2x-5)
--------------
Multiply:
c. x^2 - x - 20 / x^2 - 3x - 10 . x^2 + 7x + 10 / x^2 + 4x - 5
Factor where you can to get:
[(x-5)(x+4)]/[(x-5)(x+2)]/[[(x+5)(x-1)]
Cancel where you can to get:

= [(x+4)/(x-5)]
=[(x+4)(x+2)]/[(x-5)(x-1)]
---------------------------
d. 4x^2 - 9 / 4x^2 + 12x + 9/ (6x - 9)
= [(2x-3)(2x+3)]/[(2x+3)(2x+3)]/3(2x-3)]
= (2x-3)/(2x+3)/(2(2x-3))/1
Invert the denominator and multiply:
= [(2x-3)/(2x+3)]
= 1/[2(2x+3)]
-----------------------
Perform the operation indicated. Be sure to simplify.
a. 8/7+2x + x+3/2x+7
The denominators are both the same so,
=(x+11)/(2x+7)
-----------------
Find the LCD. Do not combine fractions.

a. [12/5a^2] * [9/ a^3]
LCD = 5a^3
-----------------

b. [13/(x^2-16)]
LCD = (x-4)(x+4)
--------------
That's enough for now.
Please repost the rest of the problems
if you still need help.
