Question 716727: I am not sure how to set this problem up and solve. I would greatly appreciate your help. The problem reads: How much water should you mix with 8 pints of a solution that is 50% developer to create a solution that is 16% developer?
Answer by solver91311(24713) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
In the 8 pints of 50% solution, there are 4 pints of water and 4 pints of developer. In the end, you will have
pints of 16% solution, which will consist of
pints of water that you added plus the 4 pints of water in the original solution plus the 4 pints of developer in the original solution, and since it is a 16% solution, we can say:
Solve for
to get the total amount of 16% solution, then subtract the 8 pints of 50% solution that you started with.
