I would be grateful if u solve this, it is from the chapter 'simultaneous equations'.

The sum of two numbers is 55. The qoutient obtained by dividing the larger number by the smaller number is 2, with a remainder of 7. Find the two numbers.

Equations:
x + y = 55
x/y = 2
----
Rearrange:
x + y = 55
x = 2y
----
Substitute for "x" and solve for "y":
2y + y = 55
3y = 55
y = 55/3 = 18 1/3

Solve for "x":
x = 2y
x = 2(55/3)
x = 115/3 = 36 2/3
