Question 699678: equation: -10=6n- (3n+12)
i understand about isolating the variable on one side, what is confusing me is the parenthesis. i think that needs to be solved first or is it assumed a 1 is in front of the parenthesis and then you could use distributive property and just remove parenthesis??

The coefficient on the parenthetical term is NOT 1. Notice the minus sign between the 6n and the opening parentheses. That minus sign is part of the coefficient. Distribute -1 across the parentheses. If you simply remove the parentheses in this case you will end up with the wrong sign on the right hand side constant term.
