Answer by ReadingBoosters(3246)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Starting with
8-2[3+1/4(6-2^2)^3-3/8]
2^2 = 4
8-2[3+1/4(2)^3-3/8]
2^3=8
8-2[3+1/4(8)-3/8]
8-2[3+2-3/8]
Convert all to fractions with 8 as denominator
24/8 + 16/8 - 3/8 = 37/8
8-2(37/8)
8-37/4
Convert 8 into fraction with 4 as denominator
32/4 - 37/4
-5/4, as a mixed number -1 1/4
Alternatively, as you started
8-2[4 5/8]
Convert 4 5/8 into improper fraction 8*4=32+5=37/8
8-2[37/8]
Alternatively, distribute the 2 after determining (6-2^2)^3
8-2[3+1/4(8)-3/8]
8 - 6 - 4 + 6/8
-2 + 6/8
-16/8 + 6/8 = -10/8 = -1 2/8 or -1 1/4
