Hi Lackinmath,
This has been posted a few times. I really think that the book or worksheet that this came from has a type-o. I think there should be either a + or - between the x and the 4 in the first set of parentheses.
(3x4y^3-5y)-(2x+3y^3-5y)
As written all you can do is:

If there were a + between the x and the 4:

Do you see why I think there is a type-o in your book or worksheet?
