Question 654691: I dont understand how to do this equations with variables on both sides:
-2(k-8)+7k = -2-k
please help.

Answer by ankor@dixie-net.com(22740)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
-2(k-8) + 7k = -2 - k
multiply whats inside the brackets
-2k + 16 + 7k = - 2 - k
Combine the k's on the left
-2k + 7k + k + 16 = -2
6k + 16 = -2
Subtract 16 from both sides
6k = -2 - 16
6k = -18
k = -18/6
k = -3

:
Check solution in the original equation
-2(-3 - 8) + 7(-3) = -2 -(-3)
-2(-11) - 21 = -2 + 3
+22 - 21 = -2 + 3
1 = 1; confirms our solution of k=-3
