Just decide which side you want your variables to be on and move them there within the rules of algebra, then move everything else to the other side within the rules of algebra. Whatever you do to one side, you also do to the other.
ex: 3x-7 = 4x+5
3x-4x-7=4x-4x+5
-x-7=5
-x-7+7=5+7
-x=12
-x/-1=12/-1

Check if x=-12 does the equation equal?
3(-12)-7=4(-12)+5
-36-7=-48+5
-43=-43 Yes. We're right!!!

All you need to do for variables like this is to just subract or add them to the other side.
Let me take you step by step with this one.
3x - 7 = 4x + 5
first lets put the variable on one side of the equation. lets do this by subtracting 3x from each side.
-7 = x + 5
then we want to get the variable by its self, so we subtract the 5 from each side of the equation
-13 = x
