let the water given by MARTINEZ be -x let the water given by Thomas be- y now time=water given/speed given that , x+y= 1225.......(1) According to question x/15+y/40=40 hr 8x+3y/120=40 therefore,8x+3y=4800 ................(2) solving equation 1 &2 we get x=245 & y = 980 putting these values in equation 2 we get martnez pump time =16.33hr and thomas family time is 24.5 hr
