Now, my answer was (1/8,5/8)
I checked this, and the 1/8 checks, but the 5/8 doesn't.

Ur answer was all wrong !!
This sum i ver very very very easy !!
it goes like this-
3x+y=1
5x-y=1
Now on doing simulteneous eqns. y gets cut and we get that
8x=2
x=1/4
substitute the value of x in eqn. (1)
3*1/4+y=1
3/4+y=1
y=1-3/4
y=1/4
Therefore x=3/4 and y=1/4
