Question 605116: how to solve
0.05x + 0.25y=44
0.15x + 0.05y=48
using the elimination method

Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
0.05 x + 0.25 y = 44.00 .............1

0.15 x 0.05 y = 48.00 .............2
Eliminate y
multiply (1)by 1.00
Multiply (2) by -5.00
0.05 x 0.25 y = 44.00
-0.75 x -0.25 y = -240.00
Add the two equations
-0.70 x = -196.00
/ -0.70
x = 280.00
plug value of x in (1)
0.05 x + 0.25 y = 44.00
14.00 + 0.25 y = 44.00
0.25 y = 44.00 -14.00
0.25 y = 30.00
y = 120.00
(280,120)
