125-(-p)=88 [A negative X a negative = positive, when you drop the parenthesis]
125+p=88 [Solve or isolate the p]
125-125+p=88-125
p=-37
.
Check by plugging (p=-37) back into the original equation.
125-(-(-37)=88
88=88
