Question 52906: 8(4U-1) -12U= 11(2U-6)
WHICH VARIABLE WOULD YOU REMOVE FIRST. I AM UNSURE HOW TO SOLVE THIS LONGER VARIABLE. I AM COMFORTABLE WITH SOLVING SMALLER VARIABLES BUT WITH THIS I AM GETTING MORE CONFUSED.
Answer by antsinmypants(6) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I wouldn't "remove" a variable, but I would do this:
8(4U-1) -12U= 11(2U-6)
(distributive property)
(32U-8)-12U= 22U-66
(add 12U to both sides)
32U-8=34U-66
(Now add 66 to both sides and subtract 32U from both sides)
58=2U
(Now divide both sides by 2 and you get)
29=U or
U=29
;) there you go!
