When adding or subtracting you have to add or subtract the coefficients and write the answer with the variable.
The variables have to be the same.
8x+5x = (8+5)x=13x

This just an addition of 2 numbers. There is no way
to know what is, so it can be anything.

I get the same answer either way.
can be any real number and this still works
