the answer is -6x+10 but I have no idea how they got that.

First expand the (x-1)(x-1) to x%5E2-2x%2B1. Now the equation becomes x-3-%28x%5E2-2x%2B1%29, which simplifies to x-3-x%5E2%2B2x-1. Now combining like terms gives us -x%5E2%2B3x-4. The answer you provide of -6x+10 cannot be correct; are you sure you're looking at the correct problem/answer?
