Solve for x:
The idea is to get the x onto one side of the equals sign. Start by subtracting 3x fom both sides of the equation.
Now add 16 to both sides.
Finally, divide both sides by 2.

Check: Set x = 8 in the original equation.
Simplify.

5X-16=3X OR SUBTRACTING 3X FROM BOTH SIDES OF THE EQUATION WE GET
5X-3X-16=3X-3X OR 2X-16=0 NOW ADD 16 TO EACH SIDE WE GET
2X-16+16=0+16 OR 2X=16 NOW DIVIDE BOTH SIDES BY 2 WE GET
(2X)/2=16/2 OR X=8
PROOF 5*8-16=3*8 OR 40-16=24 OR 24=24
