2x - 3y = 1

2x - 3y = 1 {bottom equation}
2(6 - 4y) - 3y = 1 {substituted 6 - 4y, in for x, into bottom equation}
12 - 8y - 3y = 1 {used distributive property}
12 - 11y = 1 {combined like terms}
-11y = -11 {subtracted 12 from both sides}
y = 1 {divided both sides by -11}

x = 6 - 4y {top equation}
x = 6 - 4(1) {substituted 1, in for y, into top equation}
x = 6 - 4 {multiplied 4 by 1}
x = 2 {subtracted}
