from the second equation x-y=2 is the same as x=2+y, now we take this value for x and plug it into the first equation
2(2+y)+3y=8
4+2y+3y=8
4+5y=8
5y=4
y=4/5, then we already know x = 2+y, therefore x=2+4/5 = 14/5
and we can check that x=14/5 and y=4/5 is a solution for both equations, which it is, so those are the solutions
