1y=5x+14 [Rearrange the terms and line up like-terms]

-3(y=5x+14) [Multiply either equation by a number that will cause the elimination of one of the variarables]

-3y=-15x-42 [Distribute the (-3) which will cause the elimination of "y"]

0 = -14x-42 [Solve for x]

42=-14x
.

42/-14=x
.
x=-3
.
Plug x=-3 into both of the original equations and solve for y.

3y=x
3y=(-3)
y=-3/3
y=-1

-15+14=y
