Question 43906: rearrange the second equation (x-2y=-6) to give
2y=x-6
now divide both sides by 2to give the equation of the second line as:
y=1/2x-3
As you can see, this is also the equation of the fisrt line.
Because the two lines have the same equation, they are exactly the same. Hence they have the same gradient and are parallel. Any value of x put into either equations will give the same resulting value for y. Therefore there is an infinite number of solutions.
I hope this helps.
