Question 428253: x-y=1
x+y=3
The instructions say: "Use elimination to solve each system of equations."
I have absolutely no clue what to do. I think you're supposed to somehow add the problem. Please help.

Answer by John10(297)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x-y=1 (1)
x+y=3 (2)
Add (1) and (2) to eliminate y:
x- y + x - y =1 + 3
2x = 4
x = 4/2
x = 2
Substitute x = 2 into (1) to find y:
2 + y = 3
y = 3 - 2
y = 1
The solution is (2, 1)
Hope it will help you! Thanks!
