Question 412529: x-y=10
5x-y=-6

Answer by algebrahouse.com(1659)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x - y = 10-------> -x + y = -10 {multiplied top equation by -1}
5x - y = -6------> 5x - y = -6 {bottom equation stays the same}

4x = -16 {added the two new equations together}
x = -4 {divided both sides by 4}

x - y = 10 {top original equation}
-4 - y = 10 {substituted -4, in for x, into top equation}
-y = 14 {added 4 to both sides}
y = -14 {divided both sides by -1}

x = -4 and y = -14
