Question 400257: we are learning 2 variable word problems, and usually math is easy for me, but for some reason this just isn't sticking in my head right.
i need help with this problem, "at dive movie theater, 2 bags of popcorn & 3 bags of potato chips cost $1.80. 3 bags of popcorn and 2 bags of potato chips cost $1.70.
What is the cost of one bag of popcorn?
what is the cost of one bag of potato chips?
here is what i have figured out so far
3p+2c=1.70 → 2(3p+2c=1.70) → 6p+4c=3.40

3p+2p=1.70
2p+3c=1.80 → -3(2p+3c=1.80) → -6p-9c=-5.40
-----------
-3p-7c=-3.70
but i honestly have NO idea what to do from here, any help?(:

adding together the two equations that you generated eliminates the p terms, giving ___ -5c = -2.00

substitute the c value back to any of the equations to find p
