Question 397613: Joy lives 466 miles from Max. At 8a.m., Joy starts driving toward Max's home at 60 mph. At 9a.m., Max starts driving toward Joy's home at 56 mph. How many miles will Joy have driven when they meet each other?
Answer by robertb(5830) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x = distance traveled by Joy when she meets Max on the road.
==> 466 - x = distance traveled by max when they meet.
==> x/60 = Joy's time of travel when they meet
(466 - x)/56 = max's time of travel when they meet.
Then
==>
==> 56x = 60*(522 - x)
==> 56x = 31,320 - 60x
==> 116x = 31,320
==> x = 270 miles.
