Solving by substitution

x + 2y = 1   OR x = -2y+1

4x + 8y = -5

4(-2y+1)+8y = -5

 -8y + 4 + 8y = -5

        4 ≠ -5  There are NO solutions



x + 2y = 1     OR y = -(1/2)x + 1/2

4x + 8y = -5   OR y = -(1/2)x - 5/8

These are parallel lines
