You can put this solution on YOUR website!
−20 = −4x − 6x
multiply by -1, get rid of all those negatives
20 = 4x + 6x
Add like terms
20 = 10x
divide both sides by 10
2 = x

Check in original equation
−20 = −4(2) − 6(2)
-20 = - 8 - 12

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
As long as you do the same thing to both sides
of the equation, it's OK
-20+=+-4x+-+6x
First multiply both sides by -1
%28-1%29%2A%28-20%29+=+%28-1%29%2A%28-4x%29+-+%28-1%29%2A6x
Now you simply have to know that
(-)x(-) = (+)
20+=+4x+%2B+6x
x is a common factor in 4x and 6x
so, you can express the right sides as
x%2A%284+%2B+6%29
x%2A10
Now the equation becomes
20+=+10x
Divide both sides by 10
x+=+2
