first rewrite the 2nd equation in standard form that is -4y-3x=-36
rewrite 1st equation in standard form that is 4y-7x=-4
since now we have one 4y positive and one negative we can use addition to eliminate x
4y-7x=-4
-4y-3x=-36
----------
0-10x=-40
x=-40/-10=4
substitute x=4 in either of the equation to solve for y . i'm using 1
4y-7x=-4
4y-7(4)=-4
4y=-4+28
y=24/4=6
thus x=4 and y=6
