Question 383466: Can anyone explain how to solve this problem: 24x + 5= 12x + 41. I need to see the work so I can understand the process.
Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
24x + 5= 12x + 41
...
we have to bring the terms on one side & the constants to the other side of the equal sign
shift 5 to the right side
add -5 to both sides
24x+5-5 = 12x+41-5
24x=12x+36
..
shift 12x to the left side
add -12x to both sides
24x-12x=12x-12x+36
12x=36
..
divide by 12 to keep only x on the left side
12x/12 = 36/12
x=3
