Multiply the bottom eqn by -2: -2x - 4y = -10.
Add corresponding sides: 3y + (-4y) = 8+(-10)
-y = -2, or y = 2. Substitute into the bottom eqn;
x + 2*2 = 5, or x + 4 = 5, or x = 1.
