Question 372097: Please assist with the following problem.
Solve using the substitution method. Show your work. If the system has no solution or an infinite number of solutions, state this.
8x – 5y = 3
7x + y = 51

Answer by checkley79(3341)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
8x – 5y = 3
7x + y = 51 or y=51-7x
Replace y by (51-7x) in the first equation & solve for x.
8x-5(51-7x)=3
8x-255+35x=3
43x=3+255
43x=258
x=258/43
x=6 ans.
y=51-7*6
y=51-42
y=9 ans.
Proof:
8*6-5*9=3
48-45=3
3=3
