Question 366196: I need to write an equation and then solve using the substitution method. I am confused on writing the equation.
x represents the amount of houses with the first floor plan.
y represents the amount of houses with the second floor plan.
total of 56 houses. easy, x+y=56.
Now, the question. The sales representative later indicates that there are three times as many homes available with the second floor plan than the first. Write an equation that illustrates this situation.
I have been all over with this. My first reaction is 3y+x=56. I can't seem to use that with the substitution method with my x+y=56.
