Divide the following expression: 112a^0b^3c^-4/48a^3b^0c^ 3
Solution:7b^(3-0)/3a^(3-0)c^(3+4)
7b^3/3a^3c^7
(Whenever we divide the exponents are to be subtracted for the like variables
That is we have the variables a,b,c here.So whenever we are dividing we need to subtract the exponents. For example x^3 / x^2 = x^(3-2) = x^1 = x. Here 3 is the exponent of x in the numerator and 2 is the exponent of x in the denominator .Since we divided x^3 / x^2 we subtracted the exponents 3-2 = 1).
( and whenever we have negative exponents we need to make them positive first to make the calculations easy.Example x^-2 = 1/ x^2
I used this in the problem where we have c^-4 in the numerator.I wrote it as 1/c^4 and so it shifts to the denominator .
Whenever we multiply we need to add the exponents
x^2 * x^3 = x^(2+3) = x^5
I used this rule while doing c^(3+4)
I hope it is more clear now
