Question 34272: I need help on one last problem. Just can't get it set up right.
A store sells televisions for $360 and VCR's for $270. At the beginning of the week its entire stock is worth $54,000. During the week it sells three quarters of the TV's and one third of the VCR's for a total of $30,600. How many tv's and vcr's did it have in its stock at the beginning of the week?
Thanks.

Answer by mukhopadhyay(490)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Number of TV's = x
Number of VCR's = y
360x + 270y = 54000
=> 4x + 3y = 600....(1)
3x/4 + y/3 = 30600
=> 9x + 4y = 367200...(2)
We need to solve for x,y using (1) and (2)
Multiply (1) with 4 and (2) with 3
16x + 12y = 2400......(3)
27x + 12y = 1101600..(.4)
Subtract (3) from (4):
11x = 1099200
=> x comes in fraction
