Question 334302: 4x-7y=8
-2x+5y=-1
I have struggling with this problem for quite awhile now. Please help!

Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
4x-7y=8
-2x+5y=-1
--------------
Multiply thru the 1st eq. by 2
Multiply thru the 2nd eq. by 4
-------------------------------
8x - 14y = 16
-8x+ 20y = -4
---------------------
Add the two equations and solve for "y":
6y = 12
y = 2
---
Substitute into 4x-7y = 8 and solve for "x":
4x -7*2 = 8
4x - 14 = 8
4x = 22
x = 11/2
------------------

stan H.
